On the Border of Peace
Germany had hoped to defeat the British with submarine warfare but instead caused America to join the Allies in support of France and Britain making their plan to exhaust British forces and supplies imposible. Ironicaly, their plan to win the war caused their defeat. Firing seized on the 11th of November in 1918 whene German and Allied leaders met at Ferdinands Fortch railway carriage and singed the Armistice which ended all further military conflict in the war. 11 Months prior to the singning of the Armistice Germans had begun to aby by the Fourteen Points proposed by Woodrow Wilson, and on 1919 the Treaty of Versailles was signed putting an end to the war. France wanted the complete destruction or weakening of Germany, and for Germany to accept responsibility for causing the war, followed by a conjoyned desire to limit Germany's military power.The treaties discussed at Paris amounted to:
- Treaty of Versailles: Left Germany wethought a navy, air force and limited the size of their amry to 100,000 troops, plus did not allow Germany to enter into any political union withAustria.
- Treaty of Neuilly: Caused Bulgaria to give away small portions of land around the Balkans
- Treaty of St. Germain and the Treaty of Trianon: Retraced the territories owned by the Republic of Austria, and the Kingdom of Hungary with the Allies
- Treaty of Sevres: Disolved the Ottoman Empire
- .Treaty of Laussane: Allowed for the recognition of the Republic of Turkey
